The invaders undermined the Kakhov hydroelectric power plant in the Kherson region: what is known at the moment
Breaking news that cannot be kept silent. The Kakhov HPP has been undermined by the Russian occupiers! This became known this morning, and the bombing itself was committed on the night of June 6. Not much time has passed, but we are already seeing catastrophic consequences. What happened and what else to expect, we tell later in the article.
Instagram / @ukrhydroenergo Kakhovskaya HPP I can not believe that this is possible. However, in a year and a half of full-scale war in Ukraine, the Russian occupiers have shown that they are ready for any war crimes. The explosion of the Kakhov HPP became one of them. This happened on the night of June 6, and as of 7:30 a.m. about 16,000 people were in the critical flood zone.
The head of Kherson OVA Alexander Prokudin said that fully or partially flooded about 8 settlements. That number will only grow. The President of Ukraine convened an urgent meeting of the NSDC. The scale of the destruction is so great that it is already clear: It is impossible to repair the dam.

There flooded the zoo "Kazkova Dibrova", which is only a 25-minute walk from the hydroelectric power plant. The news reported that all the animals had died. However, this information has not yet been officially confirmed.
Russia destroyed the Kakhov Dam, causing perhaps the greatest man-made disaster in Europe in decades and endangering the lives of thousands of civilians. This is a terrible war crime, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said.
The consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP The consequences of this crime are truly catastrophic. First, residents of the Kherson region and the occupied Crimea may find themselves without drinking water. Also without water can be the Kakhov Canal, through which water is supplied to the occupied Berdyansk and most settlements of the Zaporizhia region.
“This humanitarian catastrophe will hook, if not a million, then hundreds of thousands of people,” said Mikhail Yatsyuk, director of the Institute of Water Problems and Melioration of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. After blowing up the dam, a 12-meter column of water will rise.
All this will lead to irrigation problems in the south of Ukraine. This is not only about poor harvests, but also about general soil degradation, as well as changes in flora and fauna. In addition, the flooding of settlements will lead to the destruction of the biosphere. Now we are talking about targeted ecocide.

But for now, the situation is under control. Ukrainian personnel monitor all indicators. Energoatom reported this.
Local authorities announced the evacuation of the population as soon as it became known about the explosion of the dam. Kakhovskaya HPP almost completely went under water, and in the center of New Kakhovka near the regional administration building, swans are swimming right now. Every hour the water level rises.
The first evacuation train will depart from Kherson at 12:00, Ukrzaliznytsia reports. The train will follow to Nikolaev. Additional evacuation trains will be assigned if necessary. Anyone evacuating should bring documents and essentials. It is also important to take care of your pets. Before leaving the house, you need to pull out all electrical appliances, block gas and water.
As you can see, the situation is critical. Meanwhile, the UN in its social networks shares with subscribers that today is the day of the Russian language. Do you feel how cynical the way an organization created to protect people behaves? No words!
