More than a million Ukrainians received refugee status in Germany in 2022. Without knowledge of the language and German customs, many of our fellow citizens were forced to adapt to the new realities of life.

Given that most of them were women with children, of course, the main issue was shopping. And here many Ukrainians were waiting for surprises. It seems that we are all used to supermarkets and their range. But shop They were not like the Ukrainians. Editorial "Site" collected a selection of atypical features for Ukraine German stores.

Thanks to social networks, they share their news and life hacks at their new place of residence. Of course, many dream of returning home, but some simply have nowhere to go back today. Living in another country requires some training and knowledge. Many Ukrainians were simply not ready for such a turn of fate, and had to learn already on the spot.

The first thing to take into account when in Germany is that on Sundays and holidays grocery stores are not open. No big supermarkets, no small street shops. Germans are used to spending Sundays with their families and are in no hurry to make money. Therefore, you need to plan your purchases taking into account the days of the week and holidays.

Large supermarkets occupy a huge area. It’s not just the store itself. Germans appreciate their time, so they come for shopping once a week, or even two. Shopping is done by the whole family, so they come by car. In front of any supermarket there is a lot of parking. It is not uncommon to see a German on a bicycle. There is also a parking space for this type of transport.

We have already said that the Germans love dogs. So they go shopping with their four-legged friends. But in the store with animals can not, so there is a specially equipped place for dogs. If necessary, a bowl of water and dry food is stored near the guard at the entrance for dogs waiting for their master.

Shopping carts are also parked near the store entrance. But the Germans came up with a rule that allows citizens and visitors to this country not to leave them anywhere. All carts are fastened with locks, and to unhook one of them, you will need a coin of 1 or 2 euros.

Refugees in this country are not particularly chic, so such a coin is not always free. For Ukrainian women, this was not a problem, and they found use of Ukrainian hryvnia. It turns out that the compartment for coins on the trolley perfectly includes Ukrainian 10 hryvnias in the form of a coin. That's why our women use them. After making purchases when returning the trolley to the place, the coin is returned to the owner.

One of the Ukrainian women shared this way in TikTok. The comments on the video were very diverse. Someone admired ingenuity and resourcefulness. And someone openly rude to the girl and threatened to complain to law enforcement agencies, so that she was expelled from the country. One way or another, the case received publicity not only in the social network, but also in other media.
