What expressions we don’t always understand correctly

Language norms are rapidly changing and taking on modern forms. For ten years now, as no one pays attention to the kind of word “coffee”, they emphasize the last syllable in “contracts”, and such mistakes are no longer equated with a crime. Sometimes in dictionaries you can even find the pronunciation of the word “rings” with emphasis on the first syllable. And even if there is a modest mark “conversational”, but the meager tear from this becomes only bitterer.

Rules of use

1. Quintessence
   The main difficulty of this word is not in the correct pronunciation the first time, but in the appropriateness. The fact is that it is often used in the sense of “combination, mixture”. But in reality, quintessence is the fifth element, the basis of everything. So use it right.
2. Mission and secondment

3. Bathroom and bath
   Another couple that's messed up. But the test word can help. To the word “bathroom” you can always add the word “room”. It will sound organic, so the bathroom is a room. The bathroom is actually an interior item.
4. From 9:00 to 24:00
   More than once I saw signs saying that the institution works from 9:00 to 24:00. Everything is obvious here, of course, but it is better to write before 00:00. Or not work until such late at night.
   
   
   
   
5. A loan.
   The whole thing is in the right letter. Despite the fact that in the plural there will be “loans”, in the only correctly write and say “loan”. The letter "y" seems correct and familiar in this case, but, alas, it does not belong there.
6. bohemia

7. Scarlet
   The catchy word is derived from the French scabreu (“dangerous, obscene”) and reads as “scabreu”. That is why you need to say the word through “e” in the root. Remember when you want to tell an indecent joke.
8. President of a country or state
   We often hear the expression “the president of our country.” But if you dig it out, the country is the territory and the people that inhabit it. 9. Forgetting, being, living
   There's a lot of confusion about pronunciation. “Being” and “life” are pronounced with “e” at the end. And here's "forgetting" with "e."
10. Price and price tag
    Now you can often find the expression “high price”. In this case, the price is implied, but it is wrong to say so. A price tag is a label where the price is written. If you want to be outraged by the cost of goods, then you need to talk about the price.
    
    
    
    
11. Reposting
    No more modern words. When we want to share our favorite information on our page, we repost. The prefix “re-” implies the meaning of the Russian prefix “re-”. Therefore, the word “repost” will be redundant, it should not be used.
12. fetish
    To say this word has become in some sense fashionable. It is often said, “Eat chocolate is my fetish.” It doesn’t make sense unless you have a chocolate statue in your apartment that you worship. 13. Is 10 a number or a number?
    It won't take long to explain. The numbers are 0 to 9. Everything else is numbers. Accordingly, 10 is not included in the concept of numbers.
14. Paint or paint a picture?

16. Catholic and Orthodox Christmas
