Not a house, a whole palace! A fairytale kingdom in a remote corner of Ukraine

How do you imagine a Ukrainian village in the far corner of Transcarpathia? Most likely, small and inconspicuous, with a couple of dozen small houses, gardens and all that. Usually. transcarpathian It looks like that, but not that.

This small village is located in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine, just 2 km from the Ukrainian-Romanian border. Lower Apshu is called the richest village in Ukraine, and all because of the houses that clearly do not fit into the concept of “village”.





The fact is that most of the residents of this village work abroad, and here they rebuild their homes. The owners build them on a scale, so that there were greenhouses, swimming pools, baths, saunas and several bedrooms.













There are no one-storey houses here. The smallest houses have about 10-15 rooms, and the largest - 30-40. Residents of the village are built on the principle: "Let it be a brick, but my house should be higher than the neighbor's." Thus, entire palaces were built here.













Every house in this village is a masterpiece of architecture. They all look stylish and unusual, each has its own zest. Some look light and airy, others look more like a princess’ castle, and others are gloomy and mysterious. But they're all beautiful!













These are palace-house They started building in the 80s. Then Ukrainian Romanians went abroad to earn money. They earned their first capital in the 90s, then mass construction began.









Now most of the villagers are away from home and home they are extremely rare. People work in Europe, and their homes are rented out to tourists or new residents who come to the village. Those who remain keep their small businesses: restaurants, shops, small businesses.
