The doctor who sewed the girl’s hands told a story that happened in the operating room.

Not so long ago there was a terrible story that struck everyone. Margarita Gracheva became a victim of her jealous husband, who at the next quarrel cut off the woman’s hands. This story caused a huge resonance in the press, the situation is still being discussed. But behind all this hype was left in the shadow of the feat of doctors who tried their best to save the hands of the girl.

Timothy Sukhininin News that Doctors sewed hands of a womanIt instantly spread all over the internet. That same doctor was Timothy Sukhinin. In a recent interview, he shared a story that happened in the operating room. According to him, it was the worst case in his practice, despite the fact that he saw a lot of things in the dashing 90s.

“There was a man who cut off his own hand because it seemed to him that voices said that he had hit his mother with that hand. But that someone did this to his loved one, with special cruelty, intentionally – this I have never seen, says the doctor.

The operation lasted 9 hours and was, without the slightest exaggeration, unique. For many hours, surgeons under a microscope sewed nerve after nerve, vessel after vessel. And it's all in complete silence. The surgeon recalls: “We started in the silence of the grave – everyone was impressed by this case of terrible violence.”

Everyone hoped for a miracle, because no one knew if the hand would take root. The fact that a woman managed to save at least one hand is undoubtedly a miracle, but most of all it is thanks to the work of surgeons who know their job.

The doctor himself does not believe that he performed a miracle. He said, “This is what we have created.” This is the first department in the Soviet Union, microsurgery in the country began with this hospital. Previously, we had patients from Vladivostok, Central Asia, Magadan – there was only one department for the whole country.

Unfortunately, most microsurgeons are leaving this industry and moving to plastic surgery, because it is much more profitable. State funding for microsurgical operations is declining every year. This is very disappointing, because there are very few professionals who can do such an operation. But it was this specialist who gave the girl a chance for a normal life after the incident.

We are at the junction of specialties: as traumatologists, we connect the bones, sew the tendons, then sew the nerves together like neurosurgeons. Then the vessels, like vascular surgeons, are already engaged in skin plastic surgery as plastic surgeons, says Timofey.

The doctor says: “Unfortunately, many people think that carpal surgery is not a serious specialty until the same problem is addressed. Yes, fingerless people don't die, so we don't save lives, but we improve their quality. And indeed, although the surgeon did not save her life, he gave her a chance to touch her child again.

We admire what this doctor has done and how dedicated he is. More people like that.
