Progress of work
  1. Get all the water out of the tank. You will also need to cut off the water supply during cleaning.
  2. Remove the lid of the tank, for this you first need to unscrew the ring around the drain button.

  3. Inside the tank, as a rule, two mechanisms can be seen. On the left is the water shut-off valve.

  4. On the right is the water drain mechanism. And on the inner surface of the tank, and on the mechanisms visible lime plaque, rust and other contamination.

  5. Dilute 300 g of citric acid in 3 liters of boiling water until it is completely dissolved. After that, add warm water (can be from the tap) to bring the temperature of the solution to 45-50 degrees.

  6. Important! Boiling water in the tank is not recommended, since the latter can crack from a sharp temperature drop.
  7. The cleaning solution is ready, now you can fill the entire tank with it and water the drain mechanism, the top of which remains above the surface of the solution.

  8. After 15 minutes, the effect of the solution appears. The limestone plaque begins to peel off and goes away before our eyes.

  9. To clean the drain hole, put cotton disks moistened in a solution of citric acid on it.

  10. To remove contaminants on the walls of the tank that remained above water level, cover them with toilet paper soaked in a solution of citric acid.

  11. Close the toilet tank with a lid and leave the solution to work for 6-8 hours, preferably for the whole night.
  12. After 8 hours, remove all toilet paper, cotton pads and start cleaning with the same solution.
  13. Use a dishbrush or an old toothbrush.

  14. When everything is cleaned, drain the dirty water and open the water supply tap so that the tank is again filled with clean water. If the pollution is not very high, it should be enough.
  15. As you can see in the photo, the ideal result was not achieved. Most of the pollution remained on the mechanism of water descent.

  16. So keep cleaning. This time, use vinegar instead of citric acid.
  17. Heat it to 40 to 50 degrees.
  18. After water and in the process of filling the tank add heated vinegar.
  19. Leave the solution in the tank for 2-3 hours. Vinegar will eat the plaque and rust. Then repeat the cleaning process.
  20. If complete cleaning and this time to achieve failed, will have to remove the tank mechanism. It's not hard to do that.
  21. First, remove the water drain mechanism. To do this, you need to take it by the body and turn counterclockwise (left).

  22. After that, there is enough space to easily remove the shut-off valve of water. To do this, you need to turn the nut under it counterclockwise (left).

  23. Clean separately all removable parts.

  24. After the final cleaning, install all the mechanisms in place. This is done in reverse order: first install the shut-off valve of water, then the drain mechanism.
  25. Open the water tap and make sure everything is working.
