Christmas movies for family viewing
- It's a Beautiful Life, 1946
There is no doubt that the best Christmas movies are old movies. The cult tape of American director Frank Capra “This Beautiful Life” is as significant in the States as “The Irony of Fate” for the inhabitants of the USSR. The main character, family man George Bailey, wants to kill himself on Christmas Eve. He is saved from a not very festive venture by a guardian angel who shows the man the true significance of his life and how sad the world will be without him. At one time, the film was nominated for 5 Oscars, although it did not receive any. Nevertheless, “This Beautiful Life” has become a favorite Christmas tape of several generations and remains so to this day!
- The Shop Around the Corner, 1940
Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan work together in a store and, in truth, they hate each other. On Christmas Eve, young people start a romantic relationship by correspondence and fall in love with strangers. Every hero hopes for a fateful meeting on Christmas Eve, but is it worth telling who the cherished strangers are?
- Miracle on 34th Street, 1994
The 1994 film is a remake of the original film, which was released in 1947. The story of 6-year-old Susan and Santa Claus from a department store reminds the viewer that Christmas is not just a date in the calendar, but a time when miracles occur and cherished dreams are fulfilled. The girl, who has long believed in the existence of Santa, does not expect to receive the most coveted gifts in life – a new home, a father and a little brother. It turns out that Santa from the department store is a real wizard, and the dreams of the tiny heroine will come true.
- "Exchange Vacation," 2006
A tiny English village or mansion in California? The main characters of the film (Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz) were disappointed in the relationship - one unrequitedly in love, and the other cheated on Christmas Eve. Romantic disappointment leads to the fact that two complete strangers living in different parts of the world, exchange their accommodation for the holidays and are going to take a break from problems in an unusual setting. The plot reverses when each of the heroines meets a man with whom she falls in love without memory.
- "The Family Guy," 2000
Fate in the face of black Santa Claus puts Jack (Nicholas Cage) a difficult choice. The main character can be the president of a large company, can live in a luxurious penthouse and drive around Manhattan in a Ferrari, but he will be single. Or can become a real family man with a beautiful wife and cute children, but will work as a tire salesman, buy clothes at sales and ride a minivan. What would a confused Jack prefer?
