What you need to know about garden trimmers

The fashion for neat smooth green lawns came to us from Europe and has recently won the palm from greenhouses and garden beds. Previously, to care for the lawn, you had to work hard with a scythe, washing your hands to bloody calluses, but today everything is much simpler and easier because technology does not stand still! Trimmers were created specifically for lawn care and make it easy and quick to tidy and keep it clean!

What types of trimmers exist today
  1. Gasoline. The petrol trimmer is mainly equipped with a two-stroke light engine (four-stroke models are much less common), similar to that which is installed on motorcycles or mopeds. Thanks to the internal combustion engine, the device not only has high power, but can also handle quite impressive areas of the lawn - they are often used even in public utilities. Basically, engines with a volume of up to sixty cubic meters and a capacity of up to four horsepower are installed in gas cutters. Among the advantages of gasoline trimmers are high power, compatibility with metal knives, autonomy and unlimited range without being tied to an outlet. Disadvantages include high noise levels, the need for engine maintenance and high cost compared to electric models.
  2. Electrical. These are compact and lightweight models with an electric motor, capable of delivering quite high power. Basically, such devices are used for processing small areas, since the range of their action is limited by the power cable. The advantages of electrical devices include the absence of exhaust, fairly quiet operation and easy engine start. The disadvantages include a limited work area and the constant presence of a power cord in it.
  3. Rechargeable. They have a lower power than stents and a higher weight, but they allow you to work in hard-to-reach places and do not require a network connection, which is very convenient if the source of electricity is far from the lawn. The battery models are suitable for working with young grass and small areas, as the operating time is limited by the battery capacity.
  4. Multitrimmers. These universal devices are placed in a separate group, since they have a wider functionality - they are additionally equipped not only with a head with a fishing line, but also with a knife, brush cutter and a chain saw, while the motor can be either electric or gasoline.

What else should you pay attention to when choosing a trimmer
  • Engine position. The engine underneath is found mainly in low power line trimmers, sometimes equipped with wheels to compensate for engine weight. The upper position of the motor is typical for more powerful models, provides correct balance and increased maneuverability, and also allows the use of all types of knives.
  • Rod type. The straight bar is found in universal models, suitable for mowing lawns and bushes. The curved bar is primarily only suitable for cutting grass.
  • Handles. The D-handle is handy when you need to raise the trimmer frequently for brushing. The T-bar is similar to a bicycle handlebar and provides good maneuverability when working with heavy trimmers. The J-handle is comfortable for classic scythe movements.
