Italdesign and Airbus introduced the flying car

Studio Italdesign and Airbus presented at the Geneva motor show the flying car concept. The Model Pop. Up received two plug-in electric module for movement by land and air.

The basis of the car was a capsule-a cabin for two people. "Cocoon" made of carbon fiber and has a 2.6 meters in length, 1.4 m width and 1.5 meters height. The module is made to fly like a quadcopter and equipped with eight rotating in opposite directions propellers. Its dimensions are five meters by 4.4 meters.

To change driving modes it is sufficient to use the specially prepared application. Need to input information about a planned trip, after which it will automatically detect the appropriate mode of transportation, based on data on time, cost of trip, traffic and so on.

According to the project developers, the modules for on-road or flights independently arrive to the capsule with passengers and are installed, and the currently unused part is sent automatically to the charging station and is awaiting a call from "cocoon".

Modules, as well as the capsule itself, equipped with battery packs. During movement on the ground the car uses two electric motors and can accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour. Power reserve is up to 130 kilometers. Charging "the wheel" (probably the special station) takes 15 minutes.

During the flights Pop. Up has 182 horsepower and also can earn 100 miles per hour (takeoff and landing is carried out vertically). The maximum range may not exceed 100 kilometers.

About terms of emergence of commercial version of a flying car and cost information yet.
