The concept of IED Shiwa: it will look like the electric car of the future
Car tomorrow serial determine numerous new products, including ready to appear before the public. And after tomorrow? We need innovation, we need concepts. One of them IED Shiwa.
A sheet of paper lying on the table. Take it, bend it, and he'll be able to stand upright. In this sense the origami strain gives the stiffness and the strength of the material, initially deprived of these properties. On the same principle are based the body structure Shiwa (Japanese name translates as "fold," and this, of course, not a coincidence), experimental electric car built by students of the Turin branch of the European Institute of design (IED).
Shiwa is in a series of harbingers of the era of the car drones, not so far away as it seems. The theme Manager itself the vehicle comes to the fore. Shown in Geneva, the concept is not trying to interfere in the work of electronic engineers, he approaches the question more in terms of design and functionality.
Architect Riccardo Balbo, head of the Turin branch of IED, said that "the electric car tried to answer the question: how would an Autonomous car, if it was developed not an engineer and designer? How would it looked if the determining factor was not clean technique and form, coupled with user experience?".
To give an answer to the question, it was reasonable to start with the interior. And designers did not fail to emphasize its place in the project, stretching the wheelbase to 3.36 m.
The concept of the Studio is borrowed from the world of architecture: the idea is to create a modular functional microdistrict, providing comfort and optimal conditions in any circumstances. But perhaps the main feature of the salon – the lack of Windows.
"Our plan continues Balbo, – was to overcome the traditional hierarchical relationships "driver – passenger", a new interpretation of the concept of communication and interaction in the path. The proposed allocation of space does not restrict the user's ability: can ride to work and on vacation, and the family court".
In fact, inside the capsule, ensuring the safety, placed S-shaped design formed by it around the sofas create a passengers personal space, which, however, does not preclude communication. The "mood" of the salon, its configuration may vary with the features of the travel preferences of passengers. The electric car will recognize who it is in the cabin.
"Shiwa is IICV, – says Director of the IED – that is, Individual Identity Companion Vehicle, the vehicle - companion: it learns and remembers passengers and their habits. To unlock the door, for example, need to put finger on the fingerprint scanner, and the seats arranged so that we can recognize everyone who sits down".
When designed interior, special attention, of course, paid content: all natural, warm, cozy and at the same time functional and easy to clean.
The salon is located inside the body, but not hidden it (the body is not carrying), but only covered. The side panels are OLED displays, which can display multimedia content: it is simultaneously available to passengers, and those outside. The cabin provides the safety of passengers. It is a separate capsule suspended inside the structure made from bent sheet. The sheet is made of a composite material with aluminum coating. Attached to this design is devoid of racks platform.
Body Shiwa made of different composite materials and light alloys. Windows, as mentioned above, the show car is missing, since the car goes on their own. Outside there is a OLED screen where you can see how much is left of battery.
A few words about mechanical parts. The all-wheel drive is provided by four electric motor (thus, the electric vehicle has turned out all-wheel drive), located directly at the hubs; it uses power from compact batteries, hidden under the surface built on the principle of the origami body.
There is no doubt that in the near future on the roads we will not see such machines at all without glasses. To rely solely on the mind of car drivers will be solved soon. However the project is useful as another reason to examine in more detail how to change the automotive world with the introduction of unmanned vehicles. published
P. S. And remember, only by changing their consumption — together we change the world! ©
