SsangYong will create several models of electric cars in the near future
South Korean automaker SsangYong will begin production on three electrified models in the next few years.
"The company plans to build electric vehicles and hybrids, confirming it will launch a series of new generations of machines. I have seen documents showing that in 2019 or 2020, the market will be electric cars," explained Williams.
The parent company of SsangYong – Mahindra – has invested heavily in electric e2o city car, the South Korean brand is expected to borrow some technology. However, Williams did not rule out possible cooperation with other well-known brands, especially in the production of larger models.
"When you're smaller, you can't afford to take these risks [associated with investments in EV technologies],' said Williams. For example, Nissan and Renault have invested a lot, but have to wait long to see the first result. Ssangyong can work in conjunction with another brand, such as BMW".
Top Manager said that at present the company is testing an electric version of the compact crossover Tivoli. Williams also noted that in the future, SsangYong would like to unite with some larger brand for the development and production of "green" cars.
Earlier it was reported that the successor of the Korando SUV will receive a modification with an electric propulsion system and a power reserve of approximately 300 kilometers. In addition, the Koreans are going to launch a series hybrid concept car SIV-2, which will be able to compete with the Nissan Qashqai. published
