Hole of Mosul amazing horseshoe-shaped canyon in France

Trou-de-Bosal (Trou de Bozouls), or "hole of Mosul", is a large horseshoe-shaped canyon, located near the commune of Mosul in the Aveyron Department in southern France.

Meander was dug in the limestone by the erosive action of running water of the river Dourdou, which flows through the great limestone plateau of the Causse Comtal.

The diameter of the canyon is 400 m and the depth is more than 100 meters.

The most striking feature of this natural monument is the city of Mosul, which is located right on the edge of horseshoe bend canyon.

So Mosul is often called "city above the hole".

It was built in this place because of its convenient geographical position, as the canyon above the curve of the river Dourdou serves as a natural defensive fortress.published
