The ornithological complex in Sweden

Swedish architect Gert Wingard built an information centre for visitors to natural protected areas near the lake Takern.

A few years ago Wingard already designed here the ornithological station and tower for observing birds in natural conditions. Since then, the flow of tourists seeking to experience unity with nature, doesn't decrease but only increases. The administration decided to build near water, the building of the information centre with an area of 680 sq. m. Here and outdoor enthusiasts will talk about the birds nesting in the area, about the rules of conduct in marshland, in short, to educate. In addition, the center can relax, chat with companions, to eat.

Triangular building stands on low stilts. It is, as a redoubt, built around a courtyard with Seating outdoors. Sharp bends and irregular shape of the roof masking it converge with the surrounding natural objects. The roof of the visitor's centre is made up of traditional rural building materials – straw and stems of reeds. And therefore are covered with wood on the inside, the building resembles either a duck nest, or masking a screen behind which hide from the watchers, creeping closer to the birds. In some places the roof of the center is lowered almost to the ground. The ridge part along the entire length, the architects turned into a skylight.

The ornithological complex of the United wooden ramp with a length of 140 m, which was built to the tower (height 5 m from ground level) could get not only the usual pedestrians, but also people with disabilities traveling in wheelchairs.
