Kirobo is a Japanese robot astronaut

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency is an active participant in programs on the International Space Station. But, if before it sent there live astronauts, in the near future on the ISS will be the first in the history of space exploration humanoid robot – Kirobo.

The Japanese have long and firmly settled on the field of creating robots for various functions. Examples of such achievements in the Land of the Rising Sun include bikini-clad robots advertising Tokyo’s Robot Restaurant, or robots mastering the art of calligraphy.

Kirobo has complex programs that allow it to perform in automatic mode a huge number of actions, both general and highly specialized. This robot is equipped with the ability to receive, process and interpret a wide range of information, including communication plan. He easily supports the conversation in several languages, while distinguishing facial expressions on the face and tone in the voice of the dialogue partner.

Kirobo can recognize faces and objects, and search for and find things. He is able to record audio and video, as well as communicate with the world through the global Internet.

In 2009, a Japanese astronaut aboard the International Space Station communicated with people via Twitter, performing various exercises and activities that other users advised him to do.
