Salt extraction at lake Katwe in Uganda

Every year people remove the earth a hundred million tons of needed resources. A variety of proper minerals great is and different hydrocarbons (gas, oil), metals (iron, aluminum, copper, gold,...) and more. This list can be extended almost indefinitely. All these minerals are very important and necessary, as air.

On the banks of one of the lakes of Western Uganda close to 700 men, women and children earn their living extracting salt. In a week they earn nearly 30$, but it is not enough for the inhabitants of this African country. Locals with the help of earthen ramparts separated areas of salt lake and waiting for the sun will evaporate most of the water.

The majority of the children instead of school has to work on the shore of this lake, to help parents to feed the whole family. The locals extract salt more than 400 years. Men working waist deep in the water from early morning until late at night, dragged out of lakes on the land for 500 pounds of salt daily. When salt gets into a wound on the skin, it causes incredible pain. So the locals stick with the wound glue.
