Analysis of clothing carried out two independent laboratories by order of Grips Russia. 17 samples the upper clothing of different brands, including sports jackets and gloves, show a positive result for the presence of hazardous chemical components. These clothes contained dangerous compounds fluorine—, per - and polyfluorinated components (PFC).
Such compounds of fluorine are quite stable in the environment and can enter human body with air, water and food, causing a disruption in the immune and nervous systems. During the study tested outerwear European and American brands: Adidas,Jack Wolfskin, Schöffel,Vaude, Patagonia, The North Face,Salewa,Northland Seven Summits,Kaikkialla.
Surprisingly, the list includes even Patagonia, is famous for his activism in protecting the environment. Most of the concentration of PFC was found in outerwear, Adidas, Jack Wolfskin, The North Face and Salewa. Companies use PFC to make the fabric water-repellent, for example, waterproof membrane fabric type Gore-Tex®.
In jackets and gloves, Schöffel, Jack Wolfskin and Mammut have discovered dangerous concentrations of toxic perfluorooctanoic acid. The reason for concern is that the positive results of tests for the presence of clothing, the hormone-disrupting phthalates and phenols.
