Porsche is thinking about the electric car

The German company Porsche, part of Volkswagen group, is no newcomer to the environmental segment of the auto industry – hybrid version already has several models of the brand, and in the next two years will include such modification of the crossover Cayenne and Macan.

However, recently the head of Porsche Matthias Mueller made a surprise announcement to reporters of the magazine Auto Motor und Sport, in which he admitted that he is not a supporter of hybrid power systems, in which the internal combustion engine involved in one of the axes, and prefers classic cars, where the engine does not have a pairing with wheels, and only fuels the battery while driving.

The company has tried to establish itself in the electric segment by testing in 2011, several prototypes of electric vehicles on the basis of the Roadster Boxster, but the leadership of both the Porsche and the big bosses of Volkswagen AG did not accept the terms of the maximum mileage models on a full charge – no more than 170 km, with peak engine power to 245 HP. According to Mr. Muller, for the normal functioning of the electric vehicle, this figure should be at least twice as large.

The conversation about electric vehicles started by the head of Porsche is clearly not without reason: just recently in the media flashed reports that the Volkswagen engineers have managed to develop a battery that allows the car without any problems to pass without recharging up to 400 km. the Work was carried out within the framework of the completion of the project electric supercar Audi R8 e-Tron, which is due to problems with battery the third year goes to the status of a concept, and in addition to the images printed on the leaflets is in the form of several prototypes. But because Porsche, like Audi belongs to the Volkswagen group, expect the novelty to him.
