A pub in South Africa on the oldest baobab in the world




In South Africa, Modjadjiskloof has an unusual bar located inside a tree. The bar known as “Pub Tree” is located in a huge hollow that formed inside a giant baobab. Locals claim that this baobab grows as long as not only they remember themselves, but also their fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers.
According to scientists, the age of the baobab is approximately 6000 years. Today, Pub Tree is one of the oldest baobabs on the planet, as well as one of the largest. Of course, the tree can be younger, but in the case of baobabs, the age can only be established using the radiocarbon method, since the tree does not have the usual rings in the trunk.



Pub Tree is created in a hollow. The pub is one of the oldest in South Africa since it was established in Pub Tree back in 1933. Since then, the unusual establishment has been a local landmark. Inside the tree, some improvements and improvements were carried out, in particular, furniture was created: tables, chairs, various shelves and a bar counter. Despite this, the tree continues to grow successfully. The fact that the life of “Pub Tree” will last for several centuries – no one doubts.



Over time, Pub Tree was somewhat expanded, but this time outside the hollow. The baobab crown gives a beautiful shade, even in the hottest weather. This feature contributed to the fact that tables for guests also appeared around the tree. Everyone can visit the institution, and almost anyone can afford local prices. Today, Pub Tree attracts not only local spinners, but also tourists.
