The solar power plant will be built on the water

In particular, the Board of public utilities (PUB) of Singapore plans to establish a floating solar power system on the Tengeh reservoir. This plant is the addition to roof-mounted solar installation to be built on waterworks and Choa Chu Kang.

Upon completion, these installations are expected to annually generate electricity, which is sufficient for 1000 nearby households, to cover part of the electricity demand of the waterworks to clean water, writes cheburek.net.

Authorities emphasize the importance of the project, because as an island state, Singapore has limited energy and water resources, therefore, will need to use energy-intensive water treatment mechanisms such as reverse osmosis. The launch of the new floating system will help to reduce water losses due to evaporation and reduce the growth of algae.

Currently, the population of Singapore is energy that is imported from other countries. The high cost of imported fuel, contributes to increasing costs of power plants and, as consequence, increase in prices not only for electricity but also for water.
