Littered areas in Russia are the size of Belgium

 



In Russia littered areas occupy 4 million hectares, an area that corresponds with the territories of several European States.

The country has more than thousands of polygons, about 15 thousand 17 thousand legal and illegal landfills, and about 13 thousand places of unauthorized waste placement, said at the Collegium of the accounts chamber (SP) of the Russian Federation the auditor Bato-Zhargal of Zhambalnimbuev.

Total area is littered with waste territories comparable with the territories of such States as the Netherlands (4.15 million acres), Switzerland (4.12 million hectares) exceeds the territory of Moldova (3.4 million hectares), Belgium (3.3 million acres), twice that of Israel (2.2 million hectares), Slovenia (2.0 million hectares), informs "Interfax".

The growth of waste production and consumption in Russia is constantly increasing. Annually for placement of waste is about 0.4 million hectares of land.

The vast majority of waste (91%) formed during mining operations. Metallurgy, production and distribution of electricity, gas, water, and the construction and chemical production account for a total of 6.7% of waste. The share of other waste, including solid household, does not exceed 2.3%.
