Scientists have demonstrated how to make water from the air
“Magic grid” is able to extract water from the air, or rather from the fog.
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a system that allows you to get water from the morning fog and direct it into water bodies. The technology has been tested in Chile.
A special grid is located on a system of suspended structures and is placed on hilltops in arid areas. The technology of collecting water from fog takes the first steps. Therefore, pilot experiments are aimed at studying variations: how the interval of cells, their size and wettability of material fibers affect the volume of liquid extracted.
As Harriet McKinley said, “By changing the size of the holes and the fibers, we improved the system by 500%.” The technology holds great promise as a locally deployable and scalable alternative to other energy-intensive water extraction techniques, such as desalination.
