Ecological Planetarium in Montreal

A new planetarium has opened in Montreal, designed by Cardin Ramirez Julien and Ædifica. The three-storey scientific and educational complex Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium is made in the form of a huge “binoculars” facing the sky, sheathed with aluminum, and is located on the site of the former Olympic venue. It is worth noting that it was from the materials left over from the destroyed Olympic facility that the planetarium building was built. In addition, the architects used a variety of green technologies in the project, including a natural ventilation mechanism, a rainwater collection system and economical lighting, which allows the building to qualify for LEED Platinum certification.
