Green-covered townhouse in the West Village area
Green mansion in the West Village
In recent years, the West Village has become one of the most stylish neighborhoods in New York City, thanks to the fact that famous people began to settle in it. What attracts people to the area?
The surrounding area is still one of the most picturesque and charming in the city, dotted with historic townhouses that have been built over many decades. With the goal of restoring one of these iconic brick buildings to the area, architect Andrew Franz sought to preserve his original building style, while still providing the owners with space and functionality.

To visually enlarge the space, Franz added new windows that overlook the backyard. This way, more sunlight will penetrate the new penthouse. The old windows have been renovated, with stone lintels added to match the original street side blinds of the townhouse.

Architect Andrew Franz has restored many of the architectural elements of the house to return them to their original appearance, and has expanded the living space of the house by making a magnificent penthouse decorated with plants. The open area on the roof is full of plants – it literally blooms lush garden, where you can relax after a hard day. The back of the mansion overlooks the courtyard, which is equipped with several levels of courtyards and hanging gardens. Thus, Franz retained the charm of the red brick mansion, but at the same time created a more open atmosphere that will allow residents to use the living space in the most rational way.
Such a beautiful home is certainly a home where you can find respite from the city madness. What could be better than flowering greenery around the house, and even more – right on it.
