Home from an old school bus
Sean and Lindsay, designers from the American agency WPI Creative, built a house on wheels. About houses on wheels, which fall into the category of our favorite miniature houses, we wrote repeatedly. Such houses are convenient and relatively inexpensive. And they give space (although sometimes limited to 18 m2 - trailer area) for design imagination.
Some take older buses as their basis. We wrote, for example, about a bus from Israel that had a second life as a home — [And you can live in an old bus]. It is warm in Israel, to say the least. North America, where we live today, is cold. In Israel, things are bad with the forest, but in America, this is good enough. If you combine the concepts of “cold winter” and “a lot of wood”, the first thing that comes to mind is a wood stove. So, the house with the stove on the old bus.
The bus has a kitchen, a toilet with its own sewer, and a comfortable living space. Bamboo is used to cover the floor, while everything else is covered with oak, maple and pine. There is a place on the roof to transport anything.
According to Sean, all the “car” components (engine, gearbox, etc.) are now in acceptable condition, but in order to travel a long enough distance it is better to undergo maintenance. The bus is 34 years old.
Sean and Lindsay recently sold the house-bus to a young couple who will live in it in the mountains of North Cascades in upstate Washington, near the border with Canada.
