Five coups, turned into a farce

The coup – it is very risky. As it does not prepare, many do not think through all the details, something will go wrong...

1. They wanted to stage a coup, but... couldn't find the Palace

In 1995, while on vacation in Switzerland, Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani (Emir of Qatar) got his overthrow. And rightly so. Is it possible to leave the throne unattended.

A year later, the Sheikh came to himself, and when he came, I decided in that whatever was to regain its rightful place.

The plan of the former Emir was designed to the last detail. The first item was listed to assemble a powerful army that could be sent to storm the Palace. The army were French mercenaries and 600 Bedouins.

And when all was ready and decisive day has come, revealed an unexpected problem – the army was not able to find the Palace. The local was not among them.

The Bedouins entered the capital and began to reel up circles on the streets. Witnesses claim that they are non-stop phoned and yelled "where is the Palace ***?"

After a few hours, utterly exhausted and bewildered Bedouins arrested.

But that's not all! The French mercenaries and the city-it is not got – they lost their boats. Had a big Breakfast, went out of his five-star hotel, determined to make a revolution, looking – and no boats. So they returned to their rooms and fell asleep. Well, what else could they do?

2. Eight desperate guys capture côte d'ivoire

Until the 1980s, Godfrey Osei of Ghana was a Desk jockey of small manner. However, he always felt serious potential enough to become the President of any country. No matter what. In 1983 eat at home, he had his first failed coup attempt, but the speech now not about it. For our story it is important that the prison at the time, Godfrey managed to escape, and that the time of escape he was ready with a new plan.

For starters, once free, the Axes somehow came to the commodity broker from Texas who helped him get weapons and ammunition as much as 200 thousand dollars. And then he decided to raise an army. And collected. In was composed of American mercenaries in the amount of eight (!) people. And those eight Axes recruited, murmuring that we are talking about a secret CIA operation.

The purpose of these eight were to deliver weapons by sea to the coast of côte d'ivoire. There the participants of the "secret operation" was to meet with 80th real supporters Osia, to capture sequentially beaches, prison, presidential Palace and finally to attack a military base full of loyal to the government of the Libyan soldiers.

Axes was so confident in its success that when it came time to leave, said: "You guys go ahead, I have, in South America, left some things, so I will catch up to you later." And just at that moment the mercenaries began to suspect that with their employer are not okay. The fact that the guy was walking around with Nazi symbols, they are not embarrassed.

Soon after the departure of the gallant eight came to a common decision "the hell we need all this" and has landed in Brazil. But this decision too was not the most successful, because on Board was still housed a warehouse of smuggled weapons. For all that eight and tied.

However, from the prison the Americans soon fled, one of their wives managed to convey the hidden in powdered milk with a hacksaw.

3. Grab the radio – and the country is in our hands

Hezekiah Ochuka served in the air force Kenya, and in six years managed to climb the career ladder only one step. He was so hopelessly incompetent that colleagues could not help began to suspect: and not pretending?

But ambitions Otsuki was rife. He wanted to be President. So, after much deliberation and doubt, he decided on a coup. Hezekiah began with the fact that together a team of like-minded people, and even insisted that he was entrusted with the role of leader.

The plan, in a nutshell, was the following: to capture the radio station, to announce the change of power and... "we'll see".

Oh, and take prisoner the crew of the bomber and force pilots to drop bombs on the presidential Palace. Just to be sure.

The first part of the plan was the easiest. Even in Kenya no guards DJs with guns. So, at midnight on 1 August 1982, the conspirators easily seized the radio station "Voice of Kenya" and the attention of all Kenyans, enjoying light music at this late hour.

Then plan was to kill the President. Hezekiah ordered his companions to go to the cockpit home, pull them out of their beds and force to bomb the presidential Palace.

Pilots brought to the airport, and they seemed to all agree. It is on the ground. In the air started a completely different story. Three pilots quietly exchanged signals and began to fabricate in the air such a pretzel that the rebels literally twisted inside out. And while the passengers fought the urge to regurgitate, the crew dropped a shell into the woods instead of the presidential Palace. The conspirators did not notice anything, thanked the pilots, as well as the entire Kenyan army in their face, and SIM took his leave.

Six hours later the reign of Hezekiah ended ignominiously.

4. The coup that went "the wrong way"

Mike Hoare, nicknamed "Crazy" was an Irish mercenary who for most of his career he served in Africa. He was hired to organize a coup in a small state, situated on one of the Seychelles Islands. The state is, to his misfortune, was a strategically important area because of its proximity to an American military base.

His team Mad Mike called "the Ancient order of the regulars of the pub".

Having laid the weapon on the bottom of the suitcase, and stuffed the remaining space toys, all members of the Order headed to the airport under the guise of a Rugby team that travels to the Seychelles to hand out toys there the poor kids.

The trouble began when the pseudo-Rugby players showed up at the airport of a country which is supposed to capture. One of the mercenaries accidentally passed not through the "green", and through "red" customs gate, that is, as would be said that he has something to declare. The choice does not remain – the revolution had to happen right at the airport.

The embarrassed mercenary pulled out a gun and shot the officer before he had time to realize what was happening. The others also began firing right and left. After that, Mad Mike did what you would have done in his place every – he took the plane and flew home.

As soon as the plane landed, the conspirators were arrested. But prison Mike didn't waste any time – I sat down for a memoir. Fortunately, he really was something to remember.

5. Night at the Museum

The hero of this story – Hugo Chavez. At the time in question he just wanted to take the place of the then President of Venezuela Carlos Andres Perez. Like all the other heroes of our article, he also developed a cunning plan. The coup was scheduled for 4 February 1992. By this time Chavez has managed to enlist the support of ten percent of the military of the country.

On the appointed day, five military units led by Chavez marched in Caracas. They were faced with four major tasks: 1) to capture the President, 2) neutralize the key generals, 3) to speak on the radio from the building of the historical Museum and to promise people a bright future, 4) wait for General rejoicing.

It would seem the perfect plan. But...

While Chavez and Co. got to Caracas, someone had alerted the authorities to the emergence of the rebels had time to prepare. However, Chavez somehow managed to persuade the Museum guards to let him and his men inside. To enter, they entered, but ago they have already been released. After that the conspirators had the whole night to get to know exposure. More to do, they were absolutely nothing. Mobile communication they had, so the revolt was beheaded.

The next day, Chavez still made on the radio. However, in this appeal, he called on his supporters to lay down their arms.

Six years later Chavez was still President, gaining 56.5% of the vote.
