Airport, to which only 8 pilots in the world are allowed

The airport in Paro province (Bhutan) is one of the most dangerous in the world. Almost 90% of the territory of Bhutan is located within the Himalaya mountain range. For this reason, the state does not have a railway connection. But the "land of the dragon-thunderer" has one small, but quite famous airport. It is located in the province of Paro, some 100 kilometers from the capital of Bhutan - the city of Thimphu. This wonderful airport was designed by specialists from 20 countries. The main feature of Paro airport is that its runway is literally surrounded by a ring of Himalayan mountains (the height of which reaches 5000 meters), and the strip itself is located at an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level.

When approaching the airport, the plane has to maneuver in a narrow gorge, between the mountains. The plane takes off even more interesting - the height has to be gained in a funnel above the airport until the plane rises above the mountains. Feelings, frankly, are not for the faint of heart. Only the local airline DrukAir can land here. And by the way, only 8 of its pilots have certificates for takeoffs and landings at this airport. The airline has two Airbus A319 aircraft, with engines from the A320 mounted on them, this is done to prevent the aircraft from crashing into the mountain, which begins immediately after the end of the runway.

By the way, when approaching Paro airport, Mount Everest is clearly visible, it is only 230 kilometers away.

Since its opening, this airport is considered one of the most dangerous in the world. So choose – either the beauty of the Himalayan mountains, or a safer route to relax.
