Heat exchanger Ecodrain will help save on bath procedures
It has been determined that 80% to 90% of the energy used to heat the water for our needs ends up going to the sewer.
However, a new type of heat exchanger can efficiently capture some of this energy, reducing our costs in an extremely economical way.
The cost of energy to heat water is one of the highest household costs, and goes right after the heating and ventilation bill. And given that almost all of that energy is typically drained, collecting heat from, say, a shower could be the easiest way to save energy and save money.
The reuse of excess heat and the use of heat exchangers in the drainage system are not innovative ideas, but have not yet been applied on a small scale due to limitations in design and installation, and all developments were aimed at industrial applications.
A new model of heat exchanger designed for use in bathrooms of residential buildings can recover up to 45% of heat from wastewater after bath procedures, offering a return of a tangible part of the amount spent.
Early models of heat exchangers were installed vertically, which limited their use to new homes or bathrooms with a vertical straight section of the drain pipe at least 1.5 meters long. The Ecodrain heat exchanger can be installed horizontally, making it convenient to install in close proximity to a hot water source (your shower drain). It is also easy to install if you have basic knowledge of pipeline laying.
“Ecodrain has no moving parts and does not require electricity to operate. Inside is a specially designed tube system that transfers heat from sewage directly to fresh water fed into your shower. The patented device creates turbulence in the incoming stream, increasing the efficiency of heat transfer, the official press release said.
According to the manufacturer, the payback of installing a single device is about two years in areas with a high cost of electricity, or 5 years for areas with cheap electricity. And since the service life of the heat exchanger is more than thirty years, it will continue to save the owner for many years.
A short video will explain how the device works and why:
One of the key elements of Ecodrain is the use in the design of the device creating turbulence of its own design, which causes swirls in the water flow, increasing the rate of heat exchange without significantly reducing the water pressure felt by the user. Ecodrain has a rugged double-walled design that ensures fresh and sewage separation without the slightest chance of mixing, and can be easily installed by any plumber or experienced user.
The manufacturer claims that with its heat exchanger, you can shower 33% longer without increasing carbon dioxide emissions or increasing the cost of heating water. And the combination of a base cost of $439.95 and high performance makes it the easiest and fastest home improvement you can make.
The device can be installed anywhere where a large amount of hot water is used: showers at the gym or pool, hotels, laundries and large dishwashers.
