Russian machine-building plant Rosatom has developed TVEL (thermal fuel cell), designed for nuclear megawatt space engine. The new nuclear fuel will be tested this year. The transport and energy module, created on the basis of a power-propelled nuclear installation of this class, has no analogues in the world.



Its creation will end presumably by the end of 2018. The new project is being implemented by Roscosmos together with Rosatom.

Based on this idea, scientists plan to use electric jet engines, where the formation of jet thrust occurs due to the flow of ions accelerated by an electric field.

With the help of fast neutrons, a miniature nuclear reactor provides the necessary energy, which allows protecting the environment from radioactive substances. The creation of a new type of nuclear fuel scientists carried out, based on the developments made in the distant times of the Union.
