The concussion in children — first aid

Adult concussion and shaking of the body of a child of an adult differs from the child's body in the first place so that it is already fully formed. Bones have full health (which naturally depends on intake of calcium and other trace elements), are protected by the dense muscular frame, and from the most serious injuries the body guard reflexes acquired during life.

The child has not formed a rigid skeleton nor significant muscle mass, no useful applied skills, able to protect against injuries. This makes any resulting child injuries is very, very dangerous – to protect children absolutely from every unpleasant accident is simply not in forces even the most responsible parents. How is a concussion?

The brain, placed inside the skull of a man, is in a rather viscous fluid – the cerebrospinal fluid. With a sharp blow to the head the momentum of the impact forces transmitted through the cerebrospinal fluid to the brain, and that is not always held in place with a protective layer of fluid. Sometimes the brain hits the inner surface of the skull, which is accompanied by very unpleasant symptoms such as vomiting, disorientation, headaches and more. The concussion the child runs even more dangerous.

First, the danger lies in the inhibition of psychomotor development due to organic damage of the cerebral cortex.

Secondly, a blow from which an adult can barely get a slight concussion, the child may result in a fracture or displacement of bones of a skull. Third, not every parent is able to identify a concussion, and not every child is able to talk about your injury.

First aid for concussion If the child lost consciousness and lay him on his side so he can breathe freely, and sudden vomiting will not clog the Airways. In the presence of external damage (bleeding) – get them with a normal swab dipped in hydrogen peroxide. Having given first aid, call the experts. Their help will not be superfluous, if a child really has a concussion, not contusion of the soft tissues surrounding the skull outside.

If vomiting occurs repeatedly, the child continually complains of a severe headache and his pupils are different sizes is a reason to sound the alarm and call the ambulance. Equally important symptom is prolonged loss of consciousness after trauma and/or bleeding from ears, nose or eyes. Instead of blood, however, may escape the light transparent liquor.

Before arrival of physicians don't let baby sleep. In the dream harder to control his true condition. If everything measures correctly and in a timely manner, the medical prognosis of the injury is favorable. A concussion is not always turns into something quite serious, any terrible complication. Very often it is just another piece of life experience accumulated by each person by trial and error – regardless of age, gender and place of residence.
