But only Apple has removed these highly toxic substances from all of its products and recently announced further steps toward eliminating the chemicals altogether. Samsung has removed hazardous substances from mobile phones.

Environmentalists stress that by the end of 2014, sales of popular gadgets will reach almost 2.5 billion products, which will increase the industrial impact on the environment, raising questions about the structure of the business model that will contribute to the ever-increasing consumption.

Only a few companies, such as Lenovo and Huawei, have taken the first step in reducing their carbon footprint by installing solar panels at their plants in China. Here, too, Apple stands out positively: the company plans to transfer its factory for the production of displays for the iPhone to full support from renewable energy sources.
