The city, which are all police - no, but the average salary is 1200 euros
In this Spanish city there are police, crime and unemployment. Here lives only a couple thousand people who were able to build their personal social-democratic utopia.
We are talking about the town of Marinaleda, an Andalusian province in the South of Spain. It thrives at the expense of one, common to all agricultural cooperative.
At first glance, Marinaleda is no different from any other town in the region. It is located in a picturesque valley Campina, surrounded on all sides by green hills. For dozens of miles around — the only olive plantations and Golden fields of wheat. The town is beautiful and quiet. Like all towns in Andalusia — the poorest and southernmost Spanish province.
If you look closely, you will notice something else. First, local people built a unique anti-capitalist society. Second, the local mayor even encouraged theft in stores.
During the beginning of the financial crisis in 2008, Marinaleda has chosen as its mayor a very odious politician, Juan Manuel Sanchez, Gordillo, which by that time had earned the nickname "Spanish Robin hood". This man famously organized a series of raids on supermarkets when, in protest, people looted shops, making of them the most common products: oil, rice, beans. Helpless cashiers looked at the mess and cried.
Gordillo the same in all interviews said that it was not theft, and nonviolent civil disobedience act. "There are many families who can't afford to go to the store, he explained. In the XXI century it's a shame. Food is not something on which you can speculate moneybags".
If something similar happened somewhere in Germany, the us, or Russia, Gordillo certainly roared behind bars. But not in Spain. Here he became mayor of a small town and was able to implement a socialist utopia. He built a city where food and other necessities enough for everyone.
Spain is now experiencing a severe economic crisis. Only one in Andalusia is 690 thousand empty houses. All of their banks were taken from their owners for debts.
But Marinaleda is no such problem. Gordillo decided that those who want to build their own home can do it for free. But only if its total area does not exceed 192 square feet. The materials and labor paid for by the municipality. Every family that wanted to take advantage of the generous offer of the mayor, taking on only one obligation: to pay the authorities for 15 euros a month for the rest of my life. Well, this house, built on the money of the community, the buyer could not sell profitably. Want to leave — to sell the property of the municipality.
In General, in Andalusia huge unemployment. She made up a fantastic 37%, and if you count only the young people, or even 55%. In Marinaleda lives of 2,700 people, and all of them work. In the same place: local agricultural cooperative. The profits from his citizens divided equally between them. In average it is about 1200 euros per month each. In a region where every third person can not find work, this is a fantastic result.
"We need to reconsider our values, the values of the consumer society. If we forget for a while about money, selfishness and individualism, it is possible to build a much more prosperous, happy and fair society," says now, Gordillo.
"Marinaleda is only one small example. We want to spread his experience around the world," he concludes. published
