Korean scientists have created a lightweight but durable steel

Despite the fact that the price of oil is constantly falling, the question of fuel economy does not lose its relevance for vehicle manufacturers. To reduce fuel consumption, you need to create a car made of lighter materials. It is known that reducing the weight of the car on 1/10 saves 6-8% fuel.

Steel is the main material for the automotive industry. Other materials or are very expensive, or harder processed. So the question is more lightweight, but as strong and flexible steel is extremely relevant. A method of producing such steel described a team of scientists from Pojarskogo University of science and technology (South Korea). Scientists report that its microstructure in terms of flexibility and strength superior even to alloys based on titanium.

Sang-Hyun Kim and his colleagues created a steel, which combines the beneficial properties of austenite and B2 — elasticity and hardness. Scientists are already working with South Korean company POSCO, one of the world's largest steel producers — with respect to industrial use of their findings. In most developed countries, steel production in recent years greatly decreased. However, this does not apply to South Korea, which has a strong automotive industry, where the production of its own steel increased by almost 50% since 2005 published

P. S. And remember, only by changing their consumption — together we change the world! ©
