XE – a device that will allow you to charge smartphones through the air

Nowadays, no one is surprised by wireless charging. But what would you say if you could recharge your smartphone without even taking it out of your pants pocket?

TechNovator has developed a very promising device called XE that can charge your smartphone when you are a few meters from the power source. You can call XE a kind of “power router” that distributes electricity to all surrounding gadgets.

Of course, your smartphone should be clothed in a special case that is compatible with XE, as it plays the role of energy receiver in this case. To date, the company has developed such cases only for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones, but in the future they plan to significantly expand the lineup of supported models and additionally release new cases. If you care about the thickness of the case, it is equal to 3 millimeters.



The principle of operation of XE can be described by the phrase “resonant electromagnetic fields”. Nikola Tesla used a resonant transformer back in 1894, and besides him there were many examples of the use of this technology in the history of science. Electricity is transferred between two coils operating in resonance mode. The same principle is based on the operation of the radio and even Wi-Fi, just the frequencies in their case are used by others.

The charger kit includes the router itself, the case, and you will need to download the official application from the App Store, which will allow you to configure XE correctly. For example, you can choose what time of day the device should turn on and recharge your gadgets. Of course, XE consumes more electricity than traditional wired charging, but you can charge your smartphone at a distance of up to 5 meters.



If you move away from the station for a longer distance, the charging speed will simply slow down. If you are up to 2 meters away from the charging station, the smartphone will fully charge from zero to 100% within about 4 hours.

It supports simultaneous charging of up to four different devices. As for the safety of this method of energy transfer, the frequencies at which it is transmitted surround us from birth. The device has been thoroughly examined in the laboratory for a year, and experts concluded that it has no negative effect on human health.

The development of wireless charging devices at a distance is underway in other companies, such as Energous and Ossia. But to date, only TechNovator has unveiled a fully operational device that is ready for sale to end users.
