Stupid people do not happen: Seth Godin on the reasons for wrong decisions

About the kinds of nonsense about the fact that it is curable, says a famous marketer and entrepreneur Seth Godin.

We often throw the word "stupid". We're pinning such a label on people (sometimes forever). In fact, everyone has plenty of opportunities to prevent stupidity, and should remember that before you denounce someone (or yourself).

Are stupid things, but not people.

Bad analysis — classic stupidity. It is stupid not in the sense of "Oh, to know you before what you know now." It's a simple question: "Given that it was then clear that and that is why you made such a bad decision?"

Deliberate ignorance is a form of stupidity, when you are trying to find information that is useful to know, before you speak, make the decision and pull the trigger.

the frame and the film "Dumb and dumber" Lack of cultural understanding is often mistaken for stupidity. This often happens when we blurted out something without thinking. And it looks stupid especially when we consciously ignorant to something that we ought to know.

The inability to "read" people is not a sign of stupidity, but it can look so. Some people are just incapable of it, but most often we fail to see people as others see them, because of lack of effort or empathy.

Distraction — the main excuse for stupid decisions. After all, when there is some kind of stupidity, this is usually because we have not considered this important decision — with all the consequences. In General, it's not the best excuse, although common.

Self-destruction is a common form of stupidity among those people who are not sure that it deserves the privileges and opportunities.

Emotional stupidity happens because we are tempted to splash out and support the drama happening in our head. And it does not allow us to see or to comprehend what is in front of us.

Fear, of course, underlies many of our wrong judgments.

Wanting to be right is also a form of fear. If you do stupid things, you don't need to use those chances that you would get if you were right.

To be slow not to be silly, not at all. Just so you won't win a lot of prizes.

Short-term selfishness — we often observe in people. But they again and again fall into this trap, it becomes a habit.

Snap judgments — particularly complex variation on the theme of stupidity. Our unwillingness to live with ambiguity and uncertainty forces us to make decisions when the time has not come yet.

Stupidity is not necessarily incurable. published
