First tell you, rather puraskaram a story that happened recently with Lindsay Kujawy (Lindsay Kujawa). This story got in the media, and, of course, told about her in the blog itself Lindsay. Her son was drowning in a home pool, he stayed under water for a few seconds, fortunately, he was saved in time and spent the resuscitation procedure.

It did OK, but Lindsay decided to go to the pediatrician and left a message on the answering machine, telling what happened. Imagine her surprise when the doctor responded quickly to this message and recommend it as soon as possible to deliver the child to the hospital.

When Lindsay found her son, she discovered that he really wants to sleep. He was very tired, and he began to "mumble" legs. Obviously there was something wrong. This was confirmed by the test done in the hospital.

Boy's lungs were irritated and inflamed chemicals that are usually used in swimming pools. The oxygen level in his blood fell directly on the eyes, and the child actually "drowned" without noticing it.

The doctors were able to, managed to save the boy through the necessary medical procedures and good care. It took a few days. Fortunately, the child's mother quickly informed the doctor about what happened, and the doctors took all necessary measures.

But not all such stories end so happy ending. It is known that many children die as a result of secondary drowning.

After the child was drowning, it may take up to three days without overt symptoms of any health problems. But in the meantime these problems are growing, and a tragedy occurs.

  • Dry drowning occurs when the body and brain "feel" that now have to "inhale" the water. Then, as a defensive reaction, there is a spasm of the Airways. The water enters the lungs, but there is not included and the air, as a result the person remains without oxygen.

  • Secondary drowning occurs when water enters the lungs and stays there. You can "pump out" of the child, but some water still remains in the lungs, and gradually it causes pulmonary edema. First, this pulmonary edema does not create problems for the body, but through a few hours or days it can lead to death.

  • It should also be noted that the waterpools contain many chemicals. If they water into the lungs, where it causes inflammation and irritation.

  • Chlorine is highly irritates the bronchi.

  • After the drowning child was pulled from the water, made it a part of the water and did CPR, still, some water may remain in the lungs. In some hours this water causes inflammation of the bronchi, pulmonary edema occurs resulting in a decrease in the content of oxygen in the blood.

Recommendations

  • If your child was drowning, even if it was "long" and it is at first sight quite normal feeling, an urgent call to doctors for emergency treatment.

  • Not for a moment lose sight of the children when you are at the beach or in the pool.

  • Teach them to swim as early as possible.

  • Even if children can swim, can't relax. The child may become ill or something (someone) can hit it in the pool (for example, another child jumps on him from the side). So, no need to remain vigilant, you need to constantly observe the children.
