In Switzerland, started testing unmanned electric buses

Switzerland started the tests of unmanned buses with fully electric propulsion systems. Tests on public roads in the city of Sion in the Canton of Valais.





Tests will continue until October 2017. The aim of the project, supervised by the Federal Polytechnic school of Lausanne, is a study of algorithms for control of machines, improvement of road infrastructure and upgrading the vehicle.

The maximum speed of the electric buses is artificially limited to 20 kilometers per hour. The vehicle can accommodate up to 11 passengers, equipped with air conditioning and wheelchair accessibility. The fare will be charged.

The movement of buses constantly watching a team of cameramen, who will be able to remotely stop the vehicle in case of any problems. In addition, each bus is a special escort who also controls the operation of the system.





Buses operate on flexible routes, which, however, provide a few fixed stops. Passengers can track their movement and to learn about the place the nearest stop with a special mobile app.
