To be built in Armenia the region's first geothermal station

In the bowels of Armenia has a large potential for geothermal energy development. But Armenia, like other countries in the region do not have a similar experience, said Nelly Danielyan.

This alternative power is not used because too expensive needed for this study. As reported in an interview with Sputnik-Armenia Deputy Minister of energy and natural resources of Armenia Hayk Harutyunyan, the issue has been discussed before, but no investor in the end decided not to take a multimillion-dollar expenditure required for relevant studies.

In the area of the Karkar Syunik region, at an altitude of 3100 meters on the sea level are conducted drilling operations. The funding for geological research carries out Investment climate Fund, jointly with the government of Armenia. Eric Poghosyan, chief engineer of high-voltage electricity grids Sisian performing drilling operations, said that the program was launched on July 15."It is planned to drill 1200 meters, and then measure the water temperature and steam. Only then we will get certain results," he said. Poghosyan added that it is too early to talk about results, because at the moment only drilled 15 meters from 1500. In turn, the Minister said only after the completion of drilling operations, it will become clear whether the water vapor and the expected temperature."If our expectations are met, will start drilling the second well. If in this case the result is positive, we will carry out the drilling of production values," — said the Deputy Minister. He added that, according to preliminary data, is planned to create a facility that generates 250 million kW.h per year. "This is a unique source of renewable energy that is not dependent on weather or other conditions. It works always, and this is its value in our energy system," — said the Deputy Minister.

On the question of who will undertake the construction and operation of the first Armenian geothermal power station in case of receiving positive results, Arutyunyan replied that he would announce a tender. "To win the tender of the investor who will present the best offer. And this is directly related to the cost of the project. That is, who will offer a minimum price, he will build the station," he said. In the mountains of Syunik built a dirt road to get to mountain tops and transport equipment. It will not be paved, because the Investment climate Fund, provided nine million dollars, was made a condition not to harm the Alpine, the Alpine nature of Syunik. In addition to Karkara, potential sources of geothermal energy are also available in Jermaghbyur, Gridsure and on the Armenian-Georgian border. However, before looking for potential investors, we need to conduct appropriate research. published by P. S. And remember, only by changing their consumption — together we change the world! ©
