Chapel on the beach

Project Office Vector Architects created a chapel on the ocean shore in Beidaihe resort area in China. The architects wanted to Seashore Chapel reminiscent of an old boat, once swinging on the waves, but it beached.





The construction area of ​​270 square meters has a vertical orientation. During low tide, covered area outside is a place for people on the beach and at high tide the chapel as if floating on the water. Inside it created a religious atmosphere, but the view of the ocean dominates. In the chapel a little window, but the biggest of them reaching 2.7 meters in height and is provided on the eastern facade. Thus, the architects kept the panoramic view and saved the interior from excessive light exposure. The height of the main space of the chapel is 10 meters in the northern part of its sublime created space for meditation, designed for one person. Natural ventilation is also thought in the project best.
