NASA chose the best projects for the Martian base

NASA определило the three winners of the contest Printed Habitat Challenge Design Competition for the best architectural project of the Martian base. Participants were required to provide for the use of 3D-printing and maximum use of local materials.

The first place and a prize of $ 25,000 received a draft Mars Ice House (photo) from the team Team Space Exploration Architecture and Clouds Architecture Office.





Ice House project involves 3D-press of the ice composite using airgel and fiber. Printing ice layer is carried out with water vapor, which immediately solidify in the cold atmosphere of the local and protected from evaporation in the world made of PTFE membrane (ETFE membrane). The multilayer structure protects against radiation and focuses the light for better illumination.

Second place and a prize of $ 15 000 - from Team Gamma.





Third place - Team LavaHive.





In the contest was attended by more than 165 teams. Thirty best works presented in the online gallery . Organizers from NASA say they were impressed by the high level of works whose authors are not only thoughtful design and appearance of the Martian base, but have thought the performance of homes and livelihoods.
