From 6 to 27 September this year on the island Shumshu (Kuril Islands) active exploratory expedition of the Ministry of Defence (experts Russian Geographical Society and the search community, led by the head of department to perpetuate the memory of those killed in defense of the Fatherland Defense Ministry A.Taranova). The objectives of the expedition:
 - A complete inventory of military graves on the island
 - Description and shipping for reconstruction (if possible) found military equipment.

During the expedition were found the remains of 10 Soviet and 5 Japanese soldiers who were transferred for reburial representatives of the local administration and the Japanese side
