Self-assembling robots to create pieces of furniture

Researchers at the Swiss National Institute of Technology have created an unexpected solution for those who live in small apartments and a lack of free space. Kuboobraznye robots Roombots (side length 21, 6 cm) can self-assemble into different three-dimensional structures, including tables and chairs. The authors believe that their invention is suitable for private homes and meeting rooms, as well as for people with disabilities who find it difficult to cope with furniture.

Simply select the desired program, and the rest of the robots do it yourself. For each other they keep using small hooks that allows you to create a fairly large structures. Each robot consists of two halves which are rotated relative to each other. This allows them to even act as a wheel. He is able to attach and move other objects or pieces of furniture.

Now the authors are working to improve the software, increasing speed and optimization of human interaction with robots.
