Radar Doug near Chernobyl

Horizon radar station Arc - Radar, created in the USSR for the early detection of launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles for starting outbreaks (based on the reflected radiation ionosphere). Construction of the plant at Chernobyl was completed in 1985. After the events of April 26, 1986 the station was frozen and stopped operation due to possible damage to electronic equipment. Behind the characteristic sound of the air produced when (knocking) was named Russian Woodpecker (Russian Woodpecker). The height of the station near Chernobyl about 150 meters, length of 800 meters.
