Dauer 962 Le Mans Porsche

This car - one of the fastest in the world and the fastest of the series. This is not surprising, since it has a sporty origins: Dauer-Porsche 962 LM is a road version Porsche 962, the most successful sports prototype the 1980s for racing Group C (C-Group). Porsche 962 was in fact a Formula 1 car at the time, but with wheel fairings and a closed cockpit as demanded rules of C. This model was popular until the mid-1990s: after the departure of the Porsche racing competition, many teams were successful at it. Among these teams were and German Dauer Racing. Racer Johan Dower much success in the race did not have, but made progress in another area, he remade his remaining two Porsche 962 in traveler's version and called them Dauer 962. Both prototypes were exhibited at the Frankfurt Motor Show and immediately sold. Dauer continued refurbishment of Porsche 962 and officially registered the brand Dauer. Car Dauer 962 was recognized as a serial.

To promote the image of their brand Dower decided to put their vehicles to participate in the 24-hour race at Le Mans in 1994 (whereas the rules allow the participation of prototypes close to the serial model). This venture has supported the firm Porsche, leaving two Dauer Porsche 962 for finishing and organizing racing team. Cars Dower won the race, taking first and third place (the second car was a Toyota), with the result that he got the opportunity to work with the company Porsche. Dower was allowed to set up to 50 cars. If we consider that each such car costs about a million dollars, that is enough, in spite of the fact that the words of the Dower is too understated the price. During the period from 1994 to 2000 Dauer company has built and sold 12 cars called Dauer-Porsche 962 Le Mans.

Differences between the race and road cars are subtle, but significant. In general a construct Porsche, changes only. For example, the body makes little difference in appearance, but not interchangeable with the original at all. Body racing model has a lot of aerodynamic protrusions, creating a clamping force of several tons at the same time increasing the drag coefficient to 0.5. On the road version for the sake of reducing the ratio to 0.32 portion of these projections it has been removed. And in order to make the interior more spacious and that it was easier to "get", has been extended doors, windshield and interior due to the narrowing of the sidewalls, the roof has been raised by 80 mm. Like the Porsche 962, Dauer 962 has

aluminum monocoque with steel roll cage and body with a carrier part made of carbon fiber and Kevlar. Doors and engine cover, rising up, have hydraulic drives, is activated by pressing a button.

The engine on the road version has a few differences from the original. This is the same 6-cylinder 3-liter boxer engine cooling water that secures directly to the monocoque behind the seats. Equipped with the same turbochargers KKK-26, but set it in another way: as the racing engine produces too much for the road version of the power working pressure turbine is reduced to 0.8 bar, capacity - up to 730 horsepower (initially it was more than 1000 liters. c.), and torque to 700 Nm.

Transmission - an adapted version of the original racing version. It has five steps, sequential shift transmission, which is managed by buttons on the steering wheel. The brakes remain the same: perforated steel vented discs with a diameter of 355 mm and a thickness of 50 mm. Mechanisms of cooling airflow supplied through the intake pipe with a diameter of 150 mm. The firm Dauer was developed sports suspension with hydraulic clearance adjustment: the maximum value is 130 mm and the minimum - 75 mm, with an increase in speed.

Salon, perhaps, different from the original most. The most significant difference - is, of course, the volume of the cabin: due to the alteration of the body it has increased by about a third. It suffices to note, and a higher level of finish: almost all clad in expensive leather, the dashboard is made of carbon fiber, floor finish - woolen mats. Sports seats and carbon fiber, and also re-designed leather-trimmed. Additional equipment attention is drawn to a stereo, power windows, air conditioning and a retractable LCD screen.
