Dead City Arkalyk

Degradation of the city began in 1993-1994: production went into decline, began the exodus to other regions of Kazakhstan. Disrupting public services: a daily occurrence steel long interruptions in electricity, heating and water supply.

Several districts of the city has been completely abandoned in the 1990s. Enterprising businessmen from other regions of Kazakhstan dismantled the houses and brought construction materials.

At the turn of the 20th and 21st century, local authorities, a campaign to resettle the remaining residents of the neighborhoods in the compact outlined the city center, thus reducing operating costs and significantly improve the communication reliability of access to water, heating, electricity and gas.



Currently, the city of Arkalyk on the list of depressed cities of Kazakhstan with a very high unemployment rate. The industry in the city is virtually absent, except for companies that support the livelihood of the city.
