Series machine TKB-022, developed by Soviet arms designer G.A.Korobovym in the sixties of the last century, is one of his most interesting developments. Korobov began development of machines in the build Bullpup immediately after the end of World War II in an attempt to reduce the size of weapons, while maintaining ballistic performance (defined at a given cartridge barrel length). Once the machine TKB-408 was rejected in the tests, Korobov for some time refused to build Bullpup, but in 1962 returned to her. creating one of the most compact designs in small arms - his machine in firing position was at 11.5 centimeters shorter than a Kalashnikov AKMS with folded butt for the same length of the barrel to 41.5 cm. In addition to such a compact size, automatic Korobov distinguished several other highly advanced at that time Solutions - plastic housing of arms and forward ejection of spent cartridges, thus ensuring trouble-free shooting with both the right and left shoulder. Until the late sixties Korobov created several variants of this system, from the TKB-022PM to TKB-022PM5, with the latest versions of the machine created by promising at the time the cartridge caliber 13MZH 5.6h39mm.

Nevertheless, automatic Korobov and remained only in the form of prototypes, to which there were both objective reasons (eg too rear balance of weapons, doubts about the survivability of the plastic casing of weapons during prolonged operation in difficult conditions and storage) and subjective (high-ranking military officials responsible for taking a weapon into service, often very conservative and do not like change, especially when the gain in the amount of combat performance are not too obvious, the fact that the machine was designed in Tula, not Izhevsk, too, to a certain extent played against him). < br /> Whatever it was, automatic Korobov, including the TCB-022, deserve a place of honor in the history of Russian weapons, at least for the originality and boldness of technical solutions.

Automatic TKB-022 uses the vapor-automatic ring gas piston located around the barrel. Locking barrel provided a sliding vertical wedges, on the one hand possible to minimize the length of the receiver, and the other - required the introduction of additional details - loading rod / extractor. This U-shaped part movable in a horizontal plane forward or backward, is responsible for chambering the cartridge in the chamber, the extraction from the trunk cartridge cases and chambering the liner outputting tube above the barrel through which the liner enters the front part of the weapon and there already falls outside from the bottom flies. To supply the ammunition used by established shops from a Kalashnikov. The housing is made of plastic arms with metal inserts. Fuse-translator fire mode is located on the left above the pistol grip fire control. Sights are open, adjustable, and the length of the sighting line is relatively small (which is not conducive to improving the accuracy of shooting). Options machine TKB-022PM had the opportunity to install choke tubes for launching rifle grenades and, accordingly, were also activated manually tap, vent overlap when firing rifle grenades.
