34th Mountain Brigade: pack-transport platoon
At the moment, the 34th Brigade is the only military unit in Russia, in the state where there is such a specific division as pack-transport platoon. From the documentation:
Pack horses used in the performance of service and combat missions to areas difficult terrain and cargo in areas where limited or impossible to use other modes of transport.
Pack horses used under packs. It is energetic, strong horse, with strong breast, back, loin and croup a sufficiently broad and deep girth with a muscular neck, well defined withers, straight and broad back, a wide and short loin, dry and properly set course, well developed wrists and hocks. Short, wide apart limb increase resistance pack-horse.
Packhorse lifts his pack on a weight of 90-100 kg, its normal daily shift of 25-30 km. Much depends on the endurance of the animals, the degree of training, the altitude above sea level, the steepness of the climbs, descents and time of year. On average, under adverse conditions, and at a height of over 3,000 meters above sea level, all parameters can be reduced to 1, 5 times. Maximum altitude mountain areas, where they can be used pack units - 4500-5000 m.
