17th Naval School junior specialists

The first and the only Russian school of divers was established May 5, 1882 by decree of Emperor Alexander III in Kronstadt was the first and only educational institution in the world, where trained specialists diving business. In training schools accept persons of officers and lower ranks. During the first four years of its existence the school has about 200 skilled divers from the lower ranks, and 40 diving experts from the officer corps.
From 1919 to 1928 the school changed several places of their deployment: Saint Petersburg, Saratov, Kazan, Volsk, Kronstadt, Balaklava.

In 1928, the school was merged with divers Balaklava diving courses EPRON (Expeditions underwater special forces). From 1931 to 1941 the school was called the divers Naval diving school. In it trained divers EPRON. If it existed commander also classes in which he studied the composition of the team. He graduated from the training course awarded the title diving specialist.
In October 1941, when the enemy came close to Sevastopol, diving school was relocated first to Astrakhan, and then to the settlement Slyudyanka on the shores of Lake Baikal.



Within two months after the relocation, despite the bitter cold, it continued training of divers.
After the liberation of the Crimea in 1944, school divers returned to Balaklava, and in 1957, was relocated to the bay quarantine in Sevastopol, where it remains today.



Throughout its existence the school has prepared about 86 thousand qualified divers. Five graduates of the school were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, is Rear Admiral Tripolski AV captain PI Derzhavin, Colonel PE Filonenko, cosmonaut VI Christmas, deepsea divers Solodkov L. AT. Divers Simvolokov AF and Milliant SS awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, 12 specialist diving business was awarded the State Prize, thousands of divers were awarded orders and medals.



In December 2009 from the training center of the Navy separately allocated to the 17th Naval School named after Admiral junior specialists FS Oktyabrsky.
