Bingham Canyon - the deepest in the world among mining quarries, its size - about a kilometer in depth, about 4 km in diameter (the famous kimberlite pipe "Mir" in Yakutia has a depth of 525 m and a diameter of 1, 2km). Mining started here 150 years ago - in 1863. Transportation of ore is now carried out 64 huge pit dump trucks, each capable of carrying 230 tons of ore per trip (a few of them can be seen in the second picture, swept away by the flow of rock).
About the victims of the landslide is not informed, despite the fact that his career worked about 1,400 people. Miners were ready to adverse developments, as the information about dangerous driving - several inches per day - a wall fragment career came in February, but the measures taken to strengthen it to no avail. Subsidence wall career lasted several days, and the company has yet to assess the damage from the devastation of dead machinery and equipment, and gone into a collapse of industrial buildings.
