The objects presented in these wonderful pictures can seem alien, but, in fact, everything is magnified many times the cells of living organisms - diatoms. Oceanographer Paul Hargreaves has used an electron microscope to take pictures of these creatures, and artist Faye Darling retouch images with the help of special computer programs.
