Gardens of Quinta da Aveleda is a great example of the romantic garden, created in Portugal at the end of the XIX century.
The family, which owns the winery Aveleda, dates back to the 11th century. The date of the same base winery is the year engraved on the tower chasovni- 1671.





From this chapel is connected and a very interesting theory about the name of the wine house «Aveleda»: on the German-Celtic tradition, women who have the gift to foresee the future, sacrificed to the gods, to make people happier and more majestic, and they were called «Velledas». Perhaps this chapel and was once home to a fortune teller.



Winery Aveleda passed down from generation to generation, its owners were the famous and respected people of Portugal: QC, members of the Royal Court, the Knights of Christ. And one of the heirs even married the daughter of his brother King of India, which brought a faceted stone to the first tomb of St. Francis Xavier (Xavier Frantsish, better known as the Apostle of India) buried in China.



In the 1860s, the owner of the house wine Aveleda- Manoel Pedro Guedes da Silva da Fonseca, who combined wine and service as Mayor of Penafiel, with the help of his sons introduced innovative methods of growing grapes. They start planting vines on a new method, grew them on the French method Guyot (Guyot) and strictly in accordance with the soil characteristics. This has improved the quality and control the amount of harvested grapes, as well as improve the quality of wine from year to year.



Success did not wait! Soon produced its first gold medal at the wine exhibition in Paris in 1880.

Thanks to the hard work and love for winemaking, winery Aveleda is one of the largest exporters of wine region Vinho Verde (Vigneault Verde).



The house in which the family lived was rebuilt in 1912 - 1914 years. It is surrounded by an amazing, truly "heavenly" garden, where plants collected from different kontinentov- sequoia, eucalyptus and many others from different countries and continents.
